  • Catnip is very drought tolerant once plants are established.

  • ChivesChives belong to the same family as onions, leeks, and garlic.
  • Chives are hardy, drought tolerant, perennials, eight to twenty inches tall, that grow in clumps from under- ground bulbs.
  • The leaves are round and hollow, similar to onions, but smaller in diameter.
  • Uses: Chives are usually used fresh and are a common addition to baked potatoes, cream soups, and egg dishes.
  • Health Benefits: There is some evidence that chives can improve digestion and reduce high blood pressure. The oil has antibacterial properties.

  • Cilantro / CorianderAlso known as cilantro or Chinese parsley is an annual herb. The seeds have a lemony citrus flavor when crushed.
  • Uses: The fresh leaves are an ingredient in many South Asian foods (such as chutneys and salads), in Chinese dishes, in Mexican cooking, particularly in salsa and guacamole and as a garnish. It is described as warm, nutty, spicy, and orange-flavored.
  • Health Benefits: Coriander, like many herbs, contains antioxidants, which can delay or prevent the spoilage of food seasoned with this herb. Coriander has been documented as a traditional treatment for type 2 diabetes.

  • DillDill weed is a unique perennial herbal plant in the sense that both its leaves as well as seeds are used as a seasoning.
  • Handsome, feathery, blue-green foliage is a favorite flavoring in many dishes and dressings.
  • Uses- Dill seeds can be used for pickling, leaves for flavoring and the blooms make nice cut flowers.
  • Health Benefits- Dill contains numerous plant derived chemical compounds that are known to have been anti-oxidant, disease preventing, and health promoting properties. Very rich in Vitamins.

  • Garlic ChivesGarlic chives are a hardy perennial, and are easy to grow. Delightful flavor falls between garlic and onion.
  • Chives will grow in almost any soil, and love sunlight. They are pretty much care free. A favorite of butterflies.
  • Uses: Chives are best used fresh in the spring when they are tender and at their best flavor. Their garlicky flavor enhances red-cooked stews or soups, or in a stuffing. Use them also to add flavor to stir-fries.
